IF JESUS SPENT TIME IN PRAYERS, SO ARE WE!
Hebrews 5:7
In the days of His flesh, He offered up both prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears to the One able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His piety.
Jesus was, is, and will forever be the son of God. The above scripture takes us to the life of Jesus on Earth. He was offering prayers and supplication with loud crying and tears to God. He was pleading with the one who is able to save Him.
Jesus being the son of God separated time to pray. The scripture teaches us Jesus was a prayerful man. Let’s catch a glimpse of his prayer life: –
- Luke 3:21 – After baptism, he is recorded praying
- Matthew 14:23 – After preaching to the crowds, it is recorded he went up to the mountain to pray alone; also see Mark 6:46,
- Luke 6:12 – He was recorded praying the whole night at the mountain
- Mark 1:35 – He was recorded praying very early in the morning. Again, he is recorded praying at Gethsemane, before feeding the four thousand and many other times in the scriptures.
If Jesus the son of God would pray this much, whom the scripture says is part of the trinity (God), how much more should we pray also? Please take note;
- It is not the duration we will spend in prayers but the posture of our hearts.
- It is not the time of the day we chose to pray but the dedication of that moment we are facing God
- Nobody is an expert with prayers. Prayers are communication between you and God
- Finally, our consistency in prayers results in having intimacy with God.
Revivalist Smith Wigglesworth in one of his books wrote “I can’t pray more than 20 minutes, but I can not last 20 minutes without praying”. The more consistent you will become in your prayer moments, the more you develop intimacy with God. If you are able to pray for 2 minutes, please, go ahead and be faithful. Eventually, it’s gonna be 4, 8, 10, 20 minutes, and up. The more you talk to your friend, the more you got to know each other and develop intimacy. When we become consistent in our prayers, we realize our fellowship with God is becoming sweeter and stronger.
Please start today with your 2 minutes prayers and soon you will realize how God’s been a close friend to you.
